Help and support
The planner runs in your browser. Layouts autosave on this device. Nothing is uploaded unless you export a file or send the contact form.
Getting started
Create a layout
- Open the planner from a layout page if you want a finished starting point, or start from an empty grid.
- Use the toolbar to add tables, chairs, a screen, plants, a door, and text labels.
- Drag a desk with a mouse, or press and hold it on a touch screen. Arrow keys move the selected desk. Delete removes it.
- Resize a table from the toolbar after you select it. Rotate works on rectangles.
Manage students
- Open Students in the sidebar. Add a name, paste a list (one name per line), or upload an Excel file.
- Drag the grip beside a name onto the grid, or use the plus button to drop them into the first open cell.
- Each class in the sidebar has its own plan. Switching classes keeps the others.
- Lock a seat before shuffling if that student has to stay put. Keep-apart pairs are retried when you shuffle.
- Seat the class builds a room shape around the current roster. Undo puts the previous room back.
Saving and exporting
- Edits are written to this browser automatically. Refresh the page and the last class comes back. Undo and redo cover the edits in the class you have open.
- Save a JSON file if you want a copy you can move to another computer. A file that is not a layout is refused, and the open plan stays.
- Print makes a one-page handout with the class name and date. Export downloads a PNG of the same sheet. Teacher view and student view flip which side of the room is at the top.
- A link that opens a published layout replaces the current plan, then drops the link from the address bar so later edits are the ones that stick.
Grid settings
Settings changes the number of rows and columns (4 to 40) and hides the grid lines. Dark mode is shared with the rest of the site.
Need a hand?
Use the contact form. Please do not paste a full class list of student names into that message.
