How the seats are placed

Each pod is a two-by-two block. An empty row and an empty column separate the pods, which is what makes them read as tables instead of one crowded grid.

For 12 students, the plan uses 2 rows of seats, and every student row seats 6. The editable grid is 12 cells wide and 8 cells tall, counting the front of the room. There are 3 groups of 4. Empty columns break the seating up (4 gap columns inside the student block).

Four is big enough for roles (reader, writer, checker, reporter) and small enough that nobody can hide. The empty row and column between pods matter: if the clusters touch, you have a crowd, not groups.

Use it when

  • Labs, stations, and role-based group work
  • Projects that last more than one activity
  • Classes you will visit table by table

Pick something else when

  • A single whole-class discussion is the whole lesson
  • You cannot tolerate sideways sightlines during instruction
  • The task is individual and graded

Questions about this plan

How many students does this Pods of Four plan seat?
Exactly 12. The grid drawing and the planner both use that count.
How big is the grid?
12 cells wide and 8 cells tall. In the planner each cell is one desk-width.
Where should the teacher stand?
This layout assumes you move. The gaps between groups are the aisles. Teach the opening from the screen, then walk.
Can I rename students and save this?
Yes. Open it in the planner, type names or import an Excel list, and the browser keeps the edit. You can also download a PNG or a JSON file.
What if my class is a different size?
This arrangement is also generated for 8, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 students. Pick the closest count, then add or remove a desk in the planner.
